Description
Resting on the rim to your west and north is a layer of peculiar insulating material. You assume that the temperature of the waters drop at times, and thus whatever sleeps here must require extra warmth to avoid hypothermic condtions. This seems strange, however, for the humidity would lead one to belive it's warm all year round. Perhaps the moisture comes from somewhere else.
