Out of curiosity, does anyone actually use the in-game infobar? If not, is it because it needs to display more information, or are you using your mud client to provide that information for you?

If the infobar were to be improved, what information would you like to see on it? For those of you with a mud client that supports MXP, the infobar may be redundant for you (you'll need to look at your client's documentation to figure out if it supports MXP)

Also, if you could fill out the poll so I can get a feeling for how many people are using a particular client.

I use gmud because it's like telnet with color that supports command stacking and all you have to do to use a command twice is hit up and enter.

my personal belief is that a feature-packed mud client can actually interfere with your mudding - an example of this is zmud, when you type a command, it stays in your command bar, something I absolutely abhor.

as for the infobar, I've never used it and probably never will. here's what I got when I turned it on:

infobar wrote:

mana, move, exp, etc - this is information that is easily available with the score command. and since clutter is my enemy, the infobar is something that is just not for me. the prompt has worked just fine for me over the years, so I see no reason to change it.

Like you said Dor, it's redundant...but because of what's in it. I just use the prompt and wen I need to see my gold/exp needed to level I use score.

The coast is going up in flames, but the water sure is nice. Burn baby, burn.

personally i had never heard of the infobar until i read this thread and am just about to log onto the mud and look at it to see what it does but if aidans post is accurate to what i'll see then i have always just used the prompt as score as well. (potentially only because i'd never heard of the infobar before)

The irony of all existance is that good would be totally impotent without the contrast of evil.

maybe the infobar is displaying incorrectly because gmud doesn't support MXP (whatever that is).

i use mushclient but unless i'm missing something about the infobar i dont see what the client has to do with anything.....

when i turned infobar on all it did was take away my prompts and display a similar message to aidans.

so i wouldn't use it for the simple reason that it takes away my prompts.

Aidan, earlier in this thread:

The current version of DP doesn't provide MXP support, so if the infobar is not being displayed correctly, it's probably in the setup of your screen display (since it displays correctly on mine) - in reality, the infobar is just extra text at the bottom of the screen.

Hatsumi, earlier in this thread:

Correct, your client should have nothing to do with the infobar.

Given that some people didn't know it existed, and others don't use it because the information is provided elsewhere, what would it take for you to use it? That is, what information do you want displayed constantly that is currently not supplied by the infobar? Or, do you in fact see no real reason for it?

MXP (MUD eXtension Protocol) is just another dimension added to muds to spice things up a little. There's a few articles about it scattered around the net, and you go to the zuggsoft webpage.

That is what I get. It is formatted even worse on my gmud screen than you see here. This is due to due to my current gmud setup. With the infobar on this is all I see when im not in action: >
When i move I see this:
486(524)Temple Square

It appears to be somewhat centered on my screen and pretty annoying. My prompt is cleaner. Now that I am level 30 I see everything that I would want to see: 450H 390M 524V >

Possibly when I am leveling I'd like an experience bar, but I doubt it. I doubt I'd use the infobar were it improved on the mud-overall or if I twinked my settings. But I guess some people would.

Also, a lot of people use MUSH client or whatever. Lots of the old Zmud trig whores switched to that. I like the Gangsta(G)Mud myself. Simplicity with color;P.
